Beramphore Character Alterations

Instead of heritage restrictions limiting this alteration, they were embraced with the former glory of the building being restored and the ample roof space being converted into new bedrooms. From the outside it is a classic New Zealand character home, inside, it is modern and spacious.

Beramphore Character Alterations & Additions

Studio8 worked in collaboration with John Gray to upgrade, refurbish, rennovate, and produce this modern 4 bedroom dwelling.

Clever design and planning made use of the roof space to provide two upper level bedrooms above a lowered ceiling over the dining /kitchen area. A second shower room/toilet was fitted at the stair landing.

Resource consent concerns to retain and enhance the character of this turn-of-the century house, and support the character of the street, were achieved to the satisfaction of the council planners and to the delight of the owner. The builder, Steve Marshall, showed patience and excellent carpentry skill in achieving the most out of a small house, while retaining and enhancing the quality and character of the detailing of the old building.

  • Restored Character to match area and meet resource consent requirements.
  • Ceiling space used to create new upper bedrooms and bathroom.
  • New rear living area with flow to outdoors.
  • Maximised usage of space for a small house.

Date Completed: October 2014
